About

Damilola Odusote doesn’t just create art—he dismantles, reconstructs, and reshapes reality. His work isn’t confined to a canvas; it spills into the subconscious, urging viewers to question, laugh, and sometimes even unlearn. A London-born, globally recognised multidisciplinary artist, Damilola has spent his career toeing the line between chaos and precision, deconstruction and reinvention.

His journey is as layered as his artwork. Growing up in a predominantly white, working-class environment as a fostered child, he was keenly aware of what it meant to exist on the periphery—to be an observer, an outsider, an interpreter of unspoken rules. That vantage point became his superpower. Rather than trying to fit in, he turned his perspective into art: detailed, intricate, sometimes playful, often provocative pieces that reflect both the absurdity and profundity of human existence.

His influences are as diverse as his materials. One moment, his work channels the structural complexity of M.C. Escher, the next, it carries the sharp wit of David Shrigley or the conceptual layering of Banksy—though Odusote himself rejects the idea of idolising any particular “greats.” To him, art is a mirror of culture, and culture is a construct waiting to be dismantled.

Breaking the Frame: the evolution of his work

Odusote’s artistic evolution defies categorisation. Beginning with pen and ink, he gradually expanded into acrylics, resin, concrete, perspex, and even choreography—each medium serving as an extension of his fascination with movement and transformation. His work has grown increasingly immersive, evolving from two-dimensional illustrations to three-dimensional structures, resin-moulded forms, and interactive installations.

This constant reinvention is fuelled by a restless curiosity and an instinctive need to challenge what’s considered “normal.” He deconstructs everything—traditional storytelling, artistic conventions, even societal norms—and in doing so, builds something entirely new.

His themes oscillate between the deeply political and the universally human. One piece might grapple with race, identity, and social conditioning, while another playfully dissects the quirks of modern relationships. Yet, no matter how weighty the subject, there’s always a flicker of light—a touch of humor that makes even the toughest conversations easier to digest.

“If we can smile at life, even its absurdities, we open ourselves up to growth.”

This philosophy extends to his audience. Odusote’s work doesn’t demand a singular reaction—it invites interpretation. At exhibitions, he listens as strangers analyse his art, often unaware that the artist himself is standing nearby. Some see his work as playful and lighthearted, others as deeply introspective. Both are right. Because, ultimately, his art is a social experiment—one that exposes how we see, how we react, and what that reveals about us.

A global presence, a singular vision

His reputation as a bold visual storyteller has led to collaborations with Google HQ, UBS (NYC, Zurich, London, Hong Kong), and Converse, as well as exhibitions in London, New York, Stockholm, Brussels, Seattle, Singapore, Hong Kong, and the UAE. His work has graced the pages of Financial Times and Time Out, and his collectors span the globe.

Yet, despite this success, Odusote remains committed to pushing boundaries, questioning the art world’s gatekeepers, and giving space to voices that are often overlooked. His work isn’t about being placed on a pedestal—it’s about breaking the pedestal apart and seeing what happens next.

As his practice continues to expand into large-scale installations, sculptural works, and experimental multimedia pieces, one thing remains constant: Damilola Odusote will always be an outsider looking in—because that’s where the best perspective is.
